Pantoja Hurls Foresters to 1-0 Shutout Win
Tony Pantoja of the Santa Barbara Foresters was on top of his game.

The 22-year-old tantalized the Hilo Islanders with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 1-0.

"He had the changeup working," Hilo manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Santa Barbara hurler had 9 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 7 hits in his complete-game effort.

Pantoja told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

This season, Pantoja has compiled a 11-3 mark, 2.59 ERA and made 16 starts.
