Smith Gets 7-0 Shutout
|
All went well for Rick Smith of the Corpus Christi Hooks as he pitched his team to a shutout victory, 7-0, over the Sioux City Indians, limiting them to 2 hits. In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Smith on the day.
"Rick's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy," said Hooks manager . "He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
In the contest, the Corpus Christi right-hander rang up 13 and surrendered 2 walks.
"He didn't give us any second chances," said Indians manager . "It's a guessing game with him and today we were always guessing wrong."
This year, Smith has worked 116 innings with 127 strikeouts en route to a 8-4 record and a 2.33 ERA.
