Johnson Tosses No-Hitter Against Indians
|
Nate Johnson really did a number on the Sioux City Indians at Ballpark of Wichita -- and that number was zero.
The Wichita Aviators hurler had what he later called "one of the best moments of my life," tossing a no-hitter and leading the Aviators to victory, 2-0.
"This is something special," Johnson said. "I knew from the fifth inning that I had a no-hitter working. I tried to get it out of my mind, but you just can't. They have too many scoreboards in the park. They're everywhere you look."
The right-hander faced only 27 batters in the no-hit gem, struck out 6 and walked 1.
"We simply couldn't get any wood on the ball," Sioux City manager said when asked about the epic performance. "Johnson was brilliant out there. He certainly had our number."
So far this year, Johnson has made 21 starts, tossed 149.2 innings, struck out 158 batters and walked 30. His record is 11-8 with a 2.59 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .194 batting average.
