Led by an outstanding performance from starter Edward Washington, the Hilo Islanders topped the Memphis Chicks by a score of 5-1 at Rottweilers Ballpark. The 29-year-old Washington brought his top game to the mound, striking out 16 batters while allowing 5 hits and giving up no walks.

"He made a lot of good pitches out there," Chicks manager said. "He made some of our guys look bad. We didn't help matters, but we really have to give him credit -- he didn't make many mistakes."

Washington has made 23 starts so far this year and put up a 14-9 won-lost record with a 2.27 ERA. In 186 innings he has allowed 129 hits, walked 34 and struck out 245.
