Houston Wins at Home to Narrow Series Deficit to 2-1
|
The Houston Lone Stars nearly wasted a strong game from starter Gonzalo Mesa, but were saved by some timely hitting in a 9th inning walk-off win over the Long Beach Ports today.
Mesa was named player of the game in the 2-1 win at Hogg Field, after he threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball. The win allowed Houston to cut the Long Beach lead in the best-of-7 series to 1-2.
Evan Underwood was the walk-off hero for Houston. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Lone Stars pinch hitter hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.
"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Mesa said in his postgame press conference.
Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at Hogg Field. Slated to start are Ron Jackson for the Long Beach Ports and Bill Greene for the the Houston Lone Stars.
