Bruce Powell got his name recorded today, but the Hilo Islanders picked up the win at Oranges Ballpark, topping the Ventura Oranges, 7-6. "He bushwhacked us," said winning manager . "We were lucky to come out ahead." Powell, who is tied for 7th in the PCL AAA with a .347 on-base percentage, spoke to reporters in the clubhouse following the game, saying his nerves only set in once he was on the cusp of the milestone. "I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime day," the center fielder said. "I think the coaches could tell I was going to be ready to swing at anything close. That's why my third base coach told me to calm down and wait for a good pitch. That got me back on track." Bruce Powell singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 7th, singled in the 10th and singled in the 11th. So far this season, Powell has recorded a .313 batting average with 103 hits, 8 home runs, 30 RBIs, 41 runs scored and a .347 OBP. View Boxscore |
