Corpus Christi Blanks Fort Worth Behind Santana
Thursday, June 16th , 2016
Joshua Santana of the Corpus Christi Hooks was on top of his game.
The 24-year-old tantalized the Fort Worth Falcons with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 7-0.
"He had the changeup working," Fort Worth manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Corpus Christi hurler had 8 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 1 hit in his complete-game effort.
Santana told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This year in 9 starts, Santana has recorded 5 wins and absorbed 2 losses. He has pitched 74.1 innings, allowed 36 hits, struck out 73 and has a 0.61 ERA.
