Baton Rouge Blanks Waco Behind Willard Saturday, June 18th , 2016 The Waco Branch Davidians were almost helpless in their 5-0 loss to the Baton Rouge Red Sticks and hurler Steve Willard. Willard kept the Branch Davidians confused all game, spinning a 8-hit shutout. "Tip your hat to Willard," Waco manager said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night." The 26-year-old right-hander had 2 walks and 9 strikeouts in a strong performance. "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Willard said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way." Willard has nailed down 4 saves for the year. He has also totaled 117 strikeouts and 26 walks in 101.2 innings while registering a 2.30 ERA and a 4-3 won-lost record. View Boxscore |
