Beacon Valéncia Stops Blues
Sunday, June 26th , 2016
Pablo Valéncia of the Berkeley Beacon was on top of his game.
The 23-year-old tantalized the Folsom Blues with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 3-0.
"He had the changeup working," Folsom manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Berkeley hurler had 10 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 6 hits in his complete-game effort.
Valéncia told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This season, Valéncia has rung up 12 wins and 1 loss in 16 games. He has an ERA of 1.35 and has fanned 141 batters in 106.2 innings.
