His teammates and manager said he had a poised demeanor about him that was typical of someone much older and more experienced. His poise has paid off, as the 24-year-old turned in a sparkling season and has been named the winner of the Pioneer A Reliever of the Year Award for 2006.
The Los Angeles, California native won the award with 15 saves in 77 relief appearances, 261 strikeouts in 148.1 innings and a record of 13-4 to go with his 1.27 ERA.
