Cantrell Swings for the Cycle
Thursday, July 23rd , 2015
At Sea Lions Stadium, Michael Cantrell led Berkeley to a win, 4-1, over the Monterey Sea Lions by hitting for the cycle, one of baseball's more difficult feats.
"Usually the triple is the hardest one to get, but I was most worried about the homer today because the ball wasn't carrying," Cantrell said later. "When I took it deep, I was expecting the ball to die on the warning track, so it was sweet seeing the ump give me the signal to circle the bases."
In addition to going 4-for-5, Cantrell chalked up 1 run batted in and scored 2 runs in an exceptional performance.
Michael Cantrell tripled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off George Parker in the 8th.
This year, Cantrell has socked 86 hits in 316 at-bats for a .272 average with 12 home runs. He is getting on base at a .339 pace and his totals also include 42 RBIs and 42 runs scored.
