Pelicans Score Late to Upend Strip, 5-2
The New Orleans Pelicans weathered a fine game by Las Vegas right fielder Jorge Mendoza to upend the Strip, 5-2, at Higgins Park. Mendoza was 3-4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 runs. New Orleans reliever Jerry Beckmann picked up the win, while Pedro González took the loss for Las Vegas. The Pelicans go to 41-46, putting them 5th in the Pioneer League South.

Shortstop Joe James made an impact for New Orleans, when he swatted a 2-run triple off Pedro González in the bottom of the fifth. For the contest, James was 2 for 3 with a triple and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
