The inspired effort of Sacramento left fielder Ángel Barrón was not enough to prevent a loss, 9-7, to the San Diego Breakers. Barrón was 2 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. The winning pitcher was Rod Lee. He tossed 94 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 8 hits. The save went to Francisco Rodríguez, his 4th this season.

Barrett Willis had a big 3-run home run for the Breakers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With San Diego leading 5-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a sinker from Jim Johnson, who is tied for 2nd in the CL in holds with 12, and punished it. The result was his 12th home run of the season, which put the Breakers on top, 8-2.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Willis, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
