Ports Lose, 8-5, as Acorns Rally
|
The Oakland Acorns beat the Long Beach Ports, 8-5, at Tapatio Park. Oakland second baseman Michael Stinson, who is tied for 8th in the CL in stolen bases with 2, collected 2 singles and 1 double with 2 RBI. The winner was Oakland reliever Bob Brown, now 1-0. The loser was Vic Sun. Picking up the save was Mark Ervin, his 5th.
Oakland used the timely hitting of Gabriel Castaneda to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Acorns on top, 7-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We take it day by day here," said Castaneda, "and today was a good one for us."
The Acorns, now 12-5, have played inspired baseball.
