Locusts Win Nail-Biter
The Salt Lake City Locusts did just enough to nip the Austin Cowboys, 6-5, in 14 innings. Salt Lake City pitcher Jessie Downing, in particular, had a standout performance. Mario Valverde earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-3. Picking up the save was Robert Cooper. He's now 1 for 2 in save chances.

Salt Lake City needed the clutch hitting of Pedro Rodríguez to seal the deal. The center fielder swatted a solo home run in the top of the 14th inning to put the Locusts on top, 6-5. For the game, Rodríguez had 1 home run and 2 singles in 6 at-bats.

Postgame, Locusts manager Nate McGinty complimented Downing. "No question about it. Friar was terrific."

The Locusts bumped their record to 71-57 with this win.
