There was no spell, no black magic -- just good pitching.

Robert Simons of the Mexico City Aztecs blanked the San Diego Breakers, 2-0, at Estadio Tenochtitlan, and he did it the old-fashioned way. After finishing the 2-hit, complete-game shutout, he was all smiles.

"I threw a lot of my pitches for strikes in this game," Simons said. "I mixed it up and tried keeping these guys off balance."

Simons walked 0 and struck out 9 in the victory.

"He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and we never capitalized on any of his mistakes," Breakers manager RT Smith said later.

This year, Simons has registered 11 wins and 10 losses in 27 starts with a 4.27 ERA while registering 119 strikeouts and 45 walks in 172.2 innings.
