Las Vegas pitcher Pedro González did his part in helping his team defeat the Long Beach Ports, 3-2. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. In 8 innings, González surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. Charles Chandler earned the save for Las Vegas.
Luis Maldonado hit a 3-run home run off Nelson Ortaga in the bottom of the first, which put the Strip ahead, 3-0. In addition to the homer, Maldonado had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.
"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Strip manager Charlie Donovan.
Las Vegas bumps their record to 17-49 with the win.
