The Austin Cowboys racked up a win at Clark Field, bumping off the Reno Silver Sox, 4-3. Tomás Meléndez, who started for Austin, pitched effectively for his team. The winner in relief was Rafael Concepción. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-1. The Cowboys sit in second place in the Pioneer League South with a record of 37-33.
Walt Kane chipped in for Austin, stroking a crucial run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth inning. For the game, the right fielder was 2-4 with a double.
Reno manager Zach Ames said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
