Big Day for Kane in 8-5 Cowboys Win
|
Thanks in large part to right fielder Walt Kane, the Austin Cowboys beat the Reno Silver Sox, 8-5. Kane went 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5. The winning pitcher was Tomás Meléndez. His record now stands at 2-0. The left-hander went 6.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 1 hit for the Cowboys. The defeat makes Reno 2-6.
With Austin leading 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Kane came up to bat against Reno pitcher Damon Cox. Kane hit a fastball to center for a grand slam home run. His 2nd home run of the season put the Cowboys on top, 8-0.
"It was a solid team effort," Kane said. "That's usually what it takes to win."
