Long Beach pitcher Johnny Clayton did his part in helping his team beat the Portland Beavers, 5-3. The left-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Kenny Walton, now 7-0, was credited with the win in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. At 53-50, the Ports find themselves in second place in the Pacific Coast League South.
Ming Loong came through with a big-time hit for Long Beach. The first baseman smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 5-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"The vibe's good," said Long Beach manager Jordan K. "We've got to keep it going."
