Salt Lake City pitcher Matt Cook had a large part in his team beating the Minneapolis Millers, 6-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Cook, the winner, moves to 8-7. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 1 walk. With the victory, the Locusts upped their record to 61-49.

There was more than one reason the Locusts beat the Millers, but Cook's big at-bat in the bottom of the second was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run single.

"Matt is a tough competitor," said Salt Lake City manager Nate McGinty.
