Starting pitcher Jesús Chávez gave the Hollywood Stars a rock-solid effort. The Bayamón, Puerto Rico native helped his team defeat the Sacramento Ironhorse, 3-1, at Gilmore Field. David Allen closed it out for his 21st save. Hollywood has an impressive 74-38 record.

The Ironhorse had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Stars going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the three-time All-Star Tom Gary came to the plate. Gary hit a 2-run home run on a 0-1 forkball from Sacramento hurler Arthur Wise. It was Gary's 2nd home run of the year.

"We've been playing some good baseball," Gary told the Hollywood Daily. "We're aggressive and focused on what we're going to do on the field and getting it done."
