The New Orleans Pelicans spoiled a good performance by Phoenix catcher Eric Rice, bumping off Phoenix, 10-5, at Pyro Center. Rice was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. The Pelicans, now 10-4, have been sizzling early on.

New Orleans right fielder Joe Sandoval contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fourth. With two down, he hit a sinker to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 23rd hit of the season and put the Pelicans ahead, 5-4.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Sandoval. "You've got to get results."
