Angels Lose to Beavers, 3-1
|
The Portland Beavers took Los Angeles pitcher Brian Gaines's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Multnomah Stadium. The final score had Portland getting past the Angels, 3-1. Gaines went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 5. Portland reliever Gary Allen was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Brian Gaines took the loss. Gong Xú closed out the game, earning his 3rd save.
The Beavers got a big at-bat from pitcher Jody Lange. For the game, Lange threw 3.2 innings allowing 1 run. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 1st double of the season gave Portland a 3-1 lead.
"We didn't string enough hits together to win the game," said tight-lipped Los Angeles manager David K. "Obviously."
The win gives Portland a record of 7-7.
