Garner, Locusts Too Much for Millers
|
With second baseman Howard Garner leading the charge, the Salt Lake City Locusts defeated the Minneapolis Millers, 8-3, at Derks Field. Garner, who won the Young Buck in 2014, went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Salt Lake City goes to 2-1 with the win.
The Millers had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Locusts going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 30-year old shortstop Juan Álvarez came to the plate. Álvarez hit a 3-run home run on a 1-0 curveball from Minneapolis hurler Darwin McCoy. It was Álvarez's 1st home run of the year.
"Solid performance from our side," said Locusts manager Nate McGinty.
