Fernández Slugs 2 Home Runs, Rainiers Beat Owls, 5-3
|
The Seattle Rainiers defeated the San Jose Owls, 5-3. Doing his part was third baseman Daniel Fernández, who went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The winner was Martín Sánchez, who threw 109 pitches over 6.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits. Getting the save was Robinson Pérez, his 3rd.
Fred Aplin, who led the PL in hits with 213 in 2006, helped out the Seattle cause in the top of the sixth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the center fielder was 1-4.
"Anytime you're seeing it well, it's a good feeling," Fernández told the Seattle Daily.
The win brings the Rainiers to 9-11, an inauspicious start for a team that made the playoffs last season.
