Late Rally by Ports Secures 8-6 Win
|
Long Beach took on Hollywood in front of a lively crowd.
The Long Beach Ports withstood an impressive performance by Hollywood right fielder Sean Womersley to defeat the Stars, 8-6, at Tapatio Park. Womersley was 3-4 with a triple and 2 doubles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Long Beach reliever Jim Rogers picked up the win to move to 3-1. Jerry Álvarez suffered the loss. Nelson Ortaga closed out the game, earning his 1st save.
Had Eduardo Vega not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Vega hit a 2-run single. That made the score 8-6, in favor of the Ports.
"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Long Beach manager Jordan K.
The win gives Long Beach a record of 15-11.
