The Houston Lone Stars got a good effort from starter Darryl Welford in defeating the Reno Silver Sox at Alamo Park. The final score was 6-2. Welford picked up the win for Houston, going 8 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. The win puts Houston at 2-2.

Corey Hauser had a big 3-run home run for the Lone Stars in the top of the fifth inning. With Houston leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Ed Beck and swatted a home run to left. It was his 2nd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Lone Stars ahead, 6-0.

"It wasn't a very good day at the ballpark," said Reno manager Zach Ames.
