The New Orleans Pelicans got a magnificent performance from pitcher Brian Matthews, who muffled the Minneapolis offense en route to a tight, 3-0 Pelicans win at Nicollet Park. Matthews yielded no runs over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 7. His record improves to 1-0. The win takes New Orleans to 4-1.

In the bottom of the eighth, David Tobías stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Millers were trailing 3-0, but had the bases loaded. That's when Francisco Leal made a terrific pitch and Tobías struck out. Gone was the dream of a Minneapolis comeback.
