Lone Stars Suffer 2-1 Road Loss
Houston got a terrific performance from pitcher Darryl Welford, but it wasn't enough to beat the New Orleans Pelicans. New Orleans won the Higgins Park contest, 2-1. Welford threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Cristián Cortéz earned the save, his 18th, for the Pelicans. The Pelicans improved to a lofty 31-13.

The Pelicans got a big at-bat from first baseman Warren Porter. For the game, Porter went 1-3 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 1st double of the season gave New Orleans a 2-1 lead.

"Good ballgame," said Houston manager Eric Benson. "But we came up on the short end."
