Pelicans Get Past Austin for 3-2 Win
Austin wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Jorge Ayala, falling to the New Orleans Pelicans, 3-2. Ayala threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Ricardo Martínez, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. New Orleans, now 4-1, is setting the league on fire so far.

New Orleans used the timely hitting of Lee Hunter to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pelicans on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"Every loss stings," said Austin manager John Kolman. "This one is no exception."
