Eagles Take Tight Tilt, 4-3
|
Las Vegas got a terrific game from right fielder Jorge Mendoza. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Dallas, 4-3. Mendoza slugged 2 home runs. Bert Larson, the winner, is now 5-4. He struck out 5 and walked 1 over 6 innings, while allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. Mitchell White recorded the save, making him 1 for 1.
Dallas third baseman Eric Atkins contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a forkball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 102nd hit of the season and put the Eagles ahead, 4-2.
Las Vegas manager Charlie Donovan said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
Dallas is in 5th place in the Pioneer League South with a record of 56-65.
