Locusts Edge Fireballs, 3-2

Starting pitcher Jessie Downing gave the Salt Lake City Locusts a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Phoenix Fireballs, 3-2, at Derks Field. Mark Cahill, who finished 5th in the PL in saves with 37 last year, earned the save for Salt Lake City. The Salt Lake City win streak is now 3 games.
Orlando López had a big 2-run double for the Locusts in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Salt Lake City leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from former first round draft pick Cristo Richardson and swatted a double to right. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Locusts ahead, 3-0.
"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said Phoenix manager Jarien Smith. "We had our chances and didn't cash in."
