San Francisco had no answer for Long Beach Ports hurler Johnny Clayton, who overwhelmed Seals hitters as the Ports coasted to victory, 8-1. The Ports saw their win-loss record go to 63-64. At the same time, the Seals fell to 59-69.

Clayton lasted 8.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits. The Long Beach left-hander, who is tied for 10th in the CL in quality starts with 15, is now 12-7.
