Acorns Snatch Late-Game, 4-3 Win
|
The Oakland Acorns dealt the Portland Beavers a 4-3 loss at Oakland Ball Park. Raúl Tamayo, who is a two-time Platinum Glove Award winner, was the star on offense. He went 1 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Bob Brown was the winner in relief. His record is now 6-1. The losing pitcher was Riley Green. Robinson Pérez closed the game out for Oakland, earning his 21st save.
Had Gabriel Castaneda not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Castaneda hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Acorns.
"Raúl leaves the last at-bat behind him, whether it was good or bad, and goes up there and competes on every pitch," said Oakland manager Larry G.
