Murphy Sizzles in No-Hitter
The Bakersfield Basques relied on no-hit stuff from starter Wilson Murphy to defeat the Vernon Comets, 3-0, at Comets Stadium.

"It's quite a thrill," Murphy told the media afterward. "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."

To get his name logged in the Pacific AA records, he stopped Vernon cold and hitless, surrendering 2 walks and fanning 11 of the 27 batters he faced.

Bakersfield manager was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that Murphy "made managing easy today."

"I didn't have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do," he said. "I didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter."

On the season, Murphy has a 13-8 record with a 2.42 ERA.
