Rainiers Rally to Win, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Seattle Rainiers and the San Diego Breakers, Martín Sánchez was the X factor. The Seattle left-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Rubén Espinosa, who finished 5th in the PL in saves with 31 in 2007, was the winner in relief. His record is now 6-7. The losing pitcher was Harry Doiron. The first-place Rainiers have won 4 in a row.
Pat Franks, who finished 5th in the CL in stolen bases with 50 in 2012, had a direct impact on the outcome. Franks contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put Seattle up, 3-2.
During his postgame press conference, Rainiers manager Ulrath Unclean told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
