Beavers Turn Back San Francisco, 3-1
|
The Portland Beavers and San Francisco Seals played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
The Portland Beavers got a stellar effort from pitcher Robbie McDaniel, helping Portland score a win over the visiting San Francisco Seals, 3-1. The winner was McDaniel. He threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Jorge Garza.
Tadaaki Matsumoto had a big solo home run for the Beavers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Portland leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a cutter from 28-year old right-handed pitcher Jorge Garza and punished it. The result was his 24th home run of the season, which put the Beavers on top, 2-0.
"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said McDaniel. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
The Portland winning streak has reached 3 games.
