Ironhorse Fall Short at Long Beach, 3-2
|
Long Beach pitcher Philip DeBoer did his part in helping his team beat the Sacramento Ironhorse, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The winner was Long Beach reliever Francisco Silva, now 2-5. The loser was Álex Cabrera. Jim Rogers converted his 27th save in 31 tries.
In the bottom of the sixth, Long Beach left fielder Stanford Reyes put his team on top. With one out and a runner on 1st, he hit his 23rd home run of the year. Sacramento pitcher Álex Cabrera served it up. Just like that, the Ports were ahead, 2-1.
Afterward, Ports manager was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
At 83-71, the Ports find themselves in second place in the Pacific Coast League South.
