Rainiers Earn Late Win
|
The Rainiers grabbed a win, 2-1, at Sick's Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from San Jose pitcher Alberto Barajas. Barajas went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Seattle goes to 95-63. The win puts them 7½ games up in their division.
The decisive blow was delivered by Gilberto Lugo in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 30-year old right-handed pitcher David Gómez to win the game for Seattle. The home crowd went nuts.
"That's us at our best," Lugo told the Seattle Observer. "Pitching and trying to prevent runs."
