Starting pitcher Robin Joseph had a solid game. He was a big reason the Portland Beavers throttled the Seattle Rainiers, 7-1. Joseph, the winner, moves to 2-5. He threw 6.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. The win boosted Portland to 90-72.
The Beavers got a big hit from first baseman Tadaaki Matsumoto. Facing Seattle pitcher Rubén Espinosa in the top of the seventh, Matsumoto pounded a 3-run home run to center. His 28th home run of the season put the Beavers ahead, 7-0.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Matsumoto.
