Lone Stars Pull Out Late-Game Win, 6-5
|
The Houston Lone Stars picked up a win at Hogg Field, dropping the New Orleans Pelicans, 6-5. Jackson Mendoza, who finished 3rd in the PL in wins with 16 in 2012, was the difference-maker. Vaughn Davis, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 0.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. The Lone Stars, at 44-22, lead by one game in their division.
Houston took advantage of an error in the bottom of the eighth inning. The game was tied, 5-5, when Corey Hauser hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Lone Stars in front, 6-5.
"I still think this team can play even better," Hauser told the Houston Gazette.
