The Hollywood Stars put one in the win column with an opening day 4-2 triumph over the Long Beach Ports. The crowd at Gilmore Field watched Jesús Chávez put on a fine performance. The winner was Chávez. He threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Johnny Clayton. Jerry Álvarez wrapped it up, recording his 1st save.

Hollywood took a 4-2 lead on José Cruz's 2nd double of the season. The 2-run double, which Cruz hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Long Beach pitcher Johnny Clayton visibly frustrated.

After the game, Hollywood manager Scott B applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
