In a tight tilt between the San Francisco Seals and the Portland Beavers, Jorge Garza was the deciding factor. The San Francisco right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Garza, now 4-3. He tossed 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 9. Freddy Mercado earned his 16th save, after closing out the game.

The Seals got a big at-bat from left fielder Manny Cantú. For the game, Cantú was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 18th home run of the season gave San Francisco a 3-1 lead.
