The Long Beach Ports scooped up a win at Tapatio Park, dumping the Los Angeles Angels, 2-1. Johnny Clayton was essential to his team's success. In 6.1 innings, Clayton surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. Jim Rogers closed it out for Long Beach, earning his 12th save.
The Angels had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Ports going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Ming Loong came to the plate. Loong hit a 2-run double on a 1-2 slider from Los Angeles hurler Jarred Nash. It was Loong's 17th double of the year.
"Johnny set the tone," said Jordan K, the Ports manager.
Long Beach is now 33-35, Los Angeles 28-42.
