Home Field Advantage: Valenzuela, Seattle Open Wild Card Series with Win
The Seattle Rainiers started the Wild Card Series in style today, downing the visiting Long Beach Ports at Sick's Stadium by a score of 8-4 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Rainiers left fielder Carlos Valenzuela went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3.

One of the clutch hits for Seattle came from one of their biggest talents. In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Gilberto Lugo, who finished 5th in the CL in slugging percentage with .542 in 2011, hit a run-scoring double to put the Rainiers up, 6-4. For the game, the right fielder was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2.

"Nervous? No," said Lugo. "It was my time to shine."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sick's Stadium in Seattle.
