Martín Sánchez pitched a gem to help the Seattle Rainiers escape with a tight 2-1 victory over the Long Beach Ports in a low-scoring Wild Card Series contest today. The left-handed Sánchez threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball in the win, just enough for the Rainiers on a day when their offense dried up. Seattle now leads the best-of-7 series 2-0.

Long Beach had little success against Sánchez and his fastball. Sánchez tossed 125 pitches over 8 innings for the Rainiers.

"We aren't quitting," Long Beach manager said. "Yeah, the odds are definitely in their favor, but they've got to earn it."

The next game is set to be played for Friday, October 10th , 2014 at Tapatio Park in Long Beach.
