Pedro Romero Reaches 200 Wins
Sunday, July 10th , 2016
His goal at twenty was to win twenty games one year, pitch until he was thirty, win the league pennant and to make some money. Well, Pedro Romero did something even better -- the 36-year-old Hollywood Stars star has now won 200 games in his career. That put him in a very select group of pitchers.
He joined that exclusive club today at Gilmore Field by whipping the Los Angeles Angels 6-5, holding them to 1 hit in 2 innings while chalking up no strikeouts and no walks.
In the postgame interview, the modest Romero said, "It's special to win 200 games. You don't do it by yourself. You do it with good stuff and a good bullpen. You are only as good as the guys behind you. Years from now I might look back on it and give myself a little pat on the back."
In his career-to-date, the 36-year-old Romero has fashioned a 200-129 mark, 3.29 ERA and thrown 3102.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .222 lifetime against him and he has logged 4271 total strikeouts.
