Hill on Fire: Burns Bakersfield with 3 HR
Tuesday, June 30th , 2015
It's a rare event when a player hits three homers in a game and rarer still when he does it and loses.
It happened at Power Stadium, as Duane Hill of the Palm Springs Power unloaded three times against the Bakersfield Basques but was still bumped off, 14-11, by the Basques.
"We were lucky to win today," said Bakersfield skipper . "You can't give up that many home runs and expect to win on a regular basis."
For the game, the Palm Springs center fielder had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, scored 3 times, and drove in 5.
Hill spoke to the writers in the postgame press room with mixed feelings, saying he was sad to lose but happy to be seeing the ball well.
"I was just trying to swing early and often to give myself a chance," he said. "I let the pitcher supply all the power and try to figure out how to get the bat on the ball."
Duane Hill hit a two-run home run off Chris Schmidt in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Chris Schmidt in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Morgan Miller in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th.
This season, Hill has delivered 51 hits in 230 at-bats for a .222 average with 18 home runs. He is getting on base at a .300 clip and his totals also include 34 RBIs and 39 runs scored. This year Hill has played in 75 games.
