Warren Spins Masterpiece, No-Hits Santa Cruz Sunday, August 30th , 2015 Hutchinson Salt Hawks starter John Warren said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move. "I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Warren recalled. The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career. The Hutchinson right-hander no-hit the Santa Cruz Sailors, 1-0, at Hobart-Detter Field, finishing with 3 walks and 16 strikeouts, facing only 30 batters. "I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Warren admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too." Warren has made 24 starts, tossed 182.1 innings, struck out 224 batters and walked 45. His record is 12-8 with a 2.37 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .199 batting average. View Boxscore |
